West Elm Furniture Review: Terrible Quality! Not Worth the Price

Feb 21, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Home

This review is slightly overdue considering I bought my coffee table over a year ago. However, it makes me just as angry as ever. When I moved in with my boyfriend (soon to be husband!) we bought a few new items of furniture as you can imagine. We found exactly the coffee table we pictured, just dark espresso colored wood with two drawers, which we thought we could use for storage. I was very anti glass top because it always made me nervous that I would break it. However, I have many negative things to say about West Elm's quality. It may as well be from Target. Honestly other than the fact that you don't have to put it together yourself it's not worth the price. I could have bought a very similar item from Target and even though I would have had to put it together, the quality would have been similar. Not to mention we have to use coasters on it, which is a huge pain!

West Elm doesn't have my coffee table anymore to show you but it was over $500 and I am extremely disappointed with its quality. I would say spend a little more and hit up Crate and Barrel or just suck it up and go Target.

For example, this buffet table is $699. Their pieces are just very cheaply made. I would NOT bother with this store. It's just an overpriced, pre-assembled Target.

Spanx Fall 2011 at Fashion Week! Most Comfortable Strapless Bra That Actually Stays Put!

Feb 21, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Lingerie

Me Living it up in the SPANX suite during Fashion week.

This past week I had the divine pleasure of meeting with the Spanx team during Fashion week to discuss their Fall 2011 Line. The usual suspects were there, slips that suck you in, panties that cinch in that pooch, an updated version (complete with adjustable straps) of their most comfortable bra ever!

This year though I have to say I was more impressed than ever! SPANX is introducing dresses and skirts that you can wear out that encompass their fabulously flattering technology to make your body look bangin'!

My favorite item this year has been something I have been constantly searching for, the perfect strapless bra that will stay put! It seems no matter how many strapless bras I invest in they are endlessly disappointing me.

The new Bra Cha Cha, as SPANX has lovingly named its Most Comfortable Strapless bra that stays put, is contoured to your body to ensure that it won't move a millimeter! You can wear it out on the town or under your camisole to a meeting in the office. I wish I wasn't an attorney and could feel comfortable putting a pic of me in my skivvies online, but I can't. But I have to tell you I wore this bra around all afternoon under my sweater and I did not think twice about it and the shape was completely natural. It also doesn't give that hideous bump at the top like most Victoria's Secret strapless bras do, you know it's like gaping away from the top and pushes out at the top of your shirt. It's completely unforgiveable. Luckily for Victoria's Secret, until now we didn't have another option. Now you do. I'm telling you, it'll be the best $68 you ever spend. I don't take that lightly either. I realize almost $70 for a strapless is not easy to part with for an undergarment but I happen to love this bra. I also happen to have gotten it for free but you better believe I will be purchasing one in nude as well!

Next, Bod-A-Bing! Comfort never looked this good. This line is full of wardrobe essentials with a secret slimming liner to make getting dressed a cinch!!

This Jackie dress is only $80 and you won't have to invest in any other undergarments to hold you in.

They also had their patterned body-shaping pantyhose , which are what I started loving SPANX for in the first place. This pair particularly caught my eye!

The back seam really elongates the look of the legs. I think they're so sexy!

The other thing I got excited about was that Assets (SPANX's cheaper sister line) is introducing a less expensive swim line, which will be sold in Target. More info on that to follow!

High Heel Pain Relief: Zobha Tells Us How to Alleviate Our Tired Yams After Fashion Week

Feb 17, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Uncategorized

During Fashion Week, we know that all of you fashionistas have your highest high heels on display. But while we all love fashion, during this hectic week we might also be suffering for it. Relieve those achy feet with these great tips from Zobha Circle of Grace Members, Kino MacGregor and Nikki Estrada.

Wearing high heels means you will need to stretch out your Achilles tendons and these yoga poses will help alleviate your pain.

Downward Dog is a great posture to gently begin to get weight pouring into the heels with a light stretch.

Padahasthasana really increases the stretch alon the back of the legs and helps strengthen the feet and open the entire back of the legs, all the way down to the Achilles tendon.

A good standing pose, such as Mountain Pose, is especially great at setting a good balance in the feet.

Nothing to Bat Your Eyelashes At: LORAC Multiplex 3d Lashes Review

Feb 15, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

As I've mentioned, I'm sent numerous beauty products, I know, I know, what problems. But I don't even get a chance to try some products. Because I had never heard anything about LORAC's mascaras I had almost written it off until I pulled it out of its box. Its packaging was just so pretty and shimmery that I decided to try it. The mascara makes the usual claims to transform your lashes by volumizing, separating and lengthening. I'm not a fan of plain, boring lashes. I really love them big and bold since I don't usually wear much eyeshadow. I loved this mascara. It didn't clump no matter how much I kept layering it. It also didn't seem to smudge. I sneezed during application, which is always what seems to happen to me! And it barely budged even though it was wet.

Of course my favorite part of this is that LORAC's mascara is formulated WITHOUT:
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan

Available on Sephora and Ulta.com

Finesse Clean + Simple: Finally, Hypoallergenic Hair Care Available at the Drugstore

Feb 15, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, Health

I know I'm not alone in this, sensitive skin is a common problem, with so many women out there. More and more of us have been reporting concerns about allergens and harsh chemicals in products that touch their skin. Y'all know how I've been trying to live a greener life. This way you can have the best of both worlds, a sulfate free, paraben free and dye free product to help reduce irritation.

Introducing Finesse Clean + Simple – a hypoallergenic hair care line, dermatologist tested to be non-irritating and free of allergens.

Common irritants, not in these products:
· Sulfates, a cleansing and foaming agent common in shampoos that is harsh to skin and hair, and can strip color from hair.
· Parabens, a preservative believed to have properties similar to the hormone estrogen.
· Gluten, a protein often functioning as a conditioning agent, and a concern for those who suffer from gluten intolerance or dermatitis herpetiformis.
· Dyes, in personal products simply to improve appearance, and a frequent source of skin irritation.

What’s in these products: Select ingredients, dermatologist tested to be hypoallergenic. This includes:
· An extra gentle surfactant to cleanse hair without scalp irritation or excessive drying.
· A light fragrance, certified hypoallergenic.
· Specially selected conditioning agents to leave hair soft and shiny without build up.
· An advanced hairspray resin in a low alcohol hairspray formula.

“Until now,” said Randy Sloan, President, Lornamead Inc., “People with sensitive skin or allergies had to settle for expensive specialty or salon products to meet their needs. Now, they have a good, affordable option for the whole family available where they usually shop for shampoo.”

Finesse Clean + Simple products are available nationwide at food, drug and mass merchandisers, and are offered in shampoos and conditioners, as well as a styling aid:
· Clean + Simple Shampoo for Normal Hair, 10 oz
· Clean + Simple Conditioner for Normal Hair, 10 oz
· Clean + Simple Shampoo for Dry/Color Treated Hair, 10 oz
· Clean + Simple Conditioner for Dry/Color Treated Hair, 10 oz
· Clean + Simple Flexible Hold Hairspray, Non-Aerosol, 8.5 oz

I tried these out recently and I am loving them. I feel like I'm not covered in chemicals after I wash my hair. I mean do you know how many chemicals are going straight into your head when you use typical shampoos? Definitely try these out if you're trying to minimize chemical intake in your life!

Have you tried these out? Let us know what you think in the comments!
