New York Law School: 2 Girls 1 Dress
Tuesday, May 5, 2009 4:10 PM – By Elie Mystal
Most of the time, when law students flip out, they flip out about their law school. But in this era of law student meltdowns, it was only a matter of time before law students started brawling with each other.
On April 30th, New York Law School (not to be confused with NYU School of Law), had a cocktail party for 3Ls to celebrate the end of classes. A tipster explains:
There was supposed to be hors d’oeuvres served with the free alcohol, but there was little food in sight, so the scene was set for overconsumption of alcohol on empty stomachs.
This sounds promising.
You might think that this story evolves into New York Law School students rioting through TriBeCa over the school’s inability to break out of the third tier pack. But instead, we’ve got a classic green-eyed monster lurking about:
Apparently, one 3L brought a 1L as his date, and this was upsetting to his ex-girlfriend, another 3L. Earlier in the night, the [female] 3L allegedly spilled wine on this 1L. The 1L later on then threw a wine glass at the 3L.
I think we all know where this is heading. Details after the jump.
Not surprisingly, the jealous 3L did not take kindly to being assaulted by the 1L sideaction:
In retaliation, the 3L went after her and ripped the 1L’s dress off. So at one point the 1L was running around in only her shoes, stocking and thong, and security had to kick everyone out because of the fight.
We have to turn to an observer’s Facebook status updates (and attending comments) for more details (names have been changed as is my whim):
Rabble Rouser: Remind me not to wear a tube top/dress to any law school function
Interested Observer: lol, is that b/c of what you saw during the cat fight?
Didn’t Stay Late Enough: Sooooo wish I’d seen it.
Rabble Rouser: I actually didn’t see the boobs myself, but I believe the fight was over the 3L’s ex who had brought a 1L to the party. Sorry this is turning out to be TMZ… but at least it’ll keep us entertained through finals.
Interested Observer: lol, love to know who the “man” was!! bet you anything he wasn’t worth it, if he’s dated those two!
Who the Hell are You?: Yes, who is the guy? We’ve seen the 3L, we’ve seen the 1L, now let’s see the baby daddy!
Didn’t Stay Late Enough: There was a drink thrown?! This seriously gets better every time I hear about it. We may never get much use of the new building, but I’m guessing we’ll be the last class to get a cocktail party. Go NYULS!
Somewhere, the “baby daddy” is smoking a cigar, receiving the adulation of his boys, and feeling quite good about himself, I imagine.
Meanwhile, the rest of the NYLS community searches for answers. Another NYLS tipster had this to say:
NYLS has enough doubt cast upon its students and the intstitution itself, and i know i am not the only one wondering what the shcool plans to do about this humilitation on its community.
We reached out to NYLS Dean Richard A. Matasar, but his office declined to comment about the events.
We hope the defrocked NYLS 1L has learned a powerful lesson about straps.
Rik-Rak’s pretty WHACK! (Give a dog a bone…)
May 5, 2009 Author: Margaux | Filed under: Giggles, NewsworthyMy friend and I RSVP’d to an event at Rik-Rak, an allegedly high-end salon/spa in Brickell, which was hosted through the increasingly-lame Daily Candy Miami.
This event was supposed to have free cupcakes, champagne, beauty swag and CHEAP MANIS, PEDIS, WAXING, HAIRCUTS, ETC. (Which is UNHEARD OF at nice salons in Miami)
Now, if you’re from Miami, you know Rik-Rak is one of the most poshy posh salons around.
So, my friend and I thought it would be fun to go to what sounded like a pretty cool event!
It started at 6, so my friend got there at 5:45 and got into the insane line of girls to sign us in and sign us up for the $7 manicures.
I got there at 6:15. When we got to the front of the line at 6:45, they told us (and RUDELY!) “Oh, we’re out of manicures.” WTF?!?! How do you “run out” of manicures?! Are they suddenly a non-renewable resource?? Did Barack Obama add them to the Endangered Species list?!
There were no joke about 50 girls behind us and everyone was pretty pissed.
We all RSVP’d and received confirmation. They knew to expect a certain number of girls. There was no explanation, just blank stares and unapologetic impatience from some poser behind the counter with a faux-hawk.
SOOOOOOOOOO MIAMI!
No worries though, I def had like 4 of their mini cupcakes before I grabbed a swag bag full of beauty products. (Which sadly also was disappoining–filled with WATERED DOWN ((how trashy and stingy for a “high end” salon?!) Rik-Rak shampoo and TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINY samples of MEN’S THINNING HAIR PRODUCTS!!!!!!!)
The only way I would ever set foot back into Rik-Rak again would be to pimp slap whoever’s idea this “party” was!
Top 10 Most Dangerous Driving Mistakes According to MSN.com
May 5, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Newsworthy

Smartypanties drive safely! Here are the most lethal driving mistakes according to Claire Martin on MSN.com! We want you all to be safe! So take a moment and refresh your Driver’s Ed!
10. Swerving
The No. 1 fatal mistake made by drivers is perhaps the most simple: not staying in their own lane – i.e., running off the road or drifting into the adjacent lane. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2007, 15,574 people died in crashes where the driver simply couldn’t stay in the lane.
9. Driving While Drowsy
“Driving a vehicle when you are fatigued is as dangerous as driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs,” National Transportation Safety Board Acting Chairman Mark V. Rosenker said after a fatal highway accident in 2003 in which a college student who had been awake for the previous 18 hours was driving a carload of fellow students at 5 a.m. According to the NHTSA, in 2007 fatigued driving caused the deaths of 1,404 people, and more traffic fatalities occurred during the hours when most people are accustomed to being asleep (3 a.m. to 6 a.m.) than at any other time of day.
8. Drinking and Driving
Every 40 minutes someone dies in a drunk-driving accident. (In all 50 states, a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or more is considered illegal, but a little-known fact is that you can be charged with driving while impaired even if you’re under the legal limit.) Young drivers are particularly prone to drinking and driving: The 21- to 34-year-old set is responsible for well over half of alcohol-infused fatal crashes. Not surprisingly, the decision to get behind the wheel while intoxicated is made most often at night and on the weekends. According to the NHTSA, 60 percent of drivers who died after dark in 2007 were legally drunk. Alcohol is also a factor in half of pedestrian traffic deaths – both drivers and pedestrians are the culprits.
7. Overcorrecting
You get panicky when the wheels of your SUV hit the rumble patch on the shoulder of the highway, so you throw the steering wheel in the opposite direction to get the vehicle back on the road. This is a classic example of overcorrecting or oversteering, and it’s a particularly perilous maneuver when you’re behind the wheel of an SUV driving on the highway at high speeds. Consider it a rollover waiting to happen.
6. Speeding
Racing, driving faster than the posted speed limit or simply going too fast for road conditions – i.e., speeding – comprises the second highest cause of death in fatal crashes, according to the NHTSA. Once you hit 55 mph, you’re in the danger zone: 30 percent of fatalities occur at 55 or above. The worst-case scenarios invariably involve speeding without wearing a seat belt or a motorcycle helmet. Fatality rates for speeding motorcyclists are shockingly high: In 2007, speeding was a factor in 36 percent of motorcycle fatalities. Of those, 41 percent of drivers and more than half of passengers were not wearing helmets (only 20 states and the District of Columbia require helmets).
5. Failure to Yield Right of Way
For drivers age 70 and above, failing to yield while merging into traffic is the top cause of crashes. In a recent study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, drivers 80 and older simply fail to see the other vehicle they should be yielding to. Drivers 70 to 79 see the vehicle but misjudge whether they have time to proceed ahead of it. Failure to yield right of way was the fifth leading cause of fatal crashes in 2007.
4. Erratic or Reckless Driving
At its mildest, we’re talking about weaving and tailgating; at its most severe, this kind of driving involves steering down the wrong side of the road, exceeding the speed limit by 20 mph or doing more than 80 mph, and worse. Reckless driving can bring fines, jail time – and death. More than 1,850 fatalities in 2007 were the result of erratic or reckless drivers.
3. Running Red Lights
A whopping 75 percent of automobile crashes occur in cities, according to the nonprofit Insurance Research Council. The most common cause of these accidents? Hitting the gas when the light turns red. Of the myriad types of collisions that can result, head-on and side-impact collisions are the most dangerous. NHTSA statistics show that of the 41,059 automobile fatalities in 2007, 54 percent occurred in cars that sustained frontal damage. When you cut it too close while running a light, your front end or another car’s front end is impacted. Either way, it’s a recipe for a deadly accident.
2. Not Wearing a Seat Belt
Despite the fact that seat belt use is far more prevalent than even a decade ago – not to mention being legally required – 33 percent of people who die in vehicle fatalities failed to buckle up. Without a seat belt, car drivers and passengers put themselves at risk of being ejected from a vehicle, and 76 percent of the time the ejection ends in death.
1. Inattentive Driving
Eating, talking on a cell phone, typing text messages and fumbling with the car stereo all fall under the umbrella of inattentive driving, which was responsible for 4,704 deaths in 2007. Of these bad habits, cell phone use behind the wheel is becoming standard practice, with an estimated 1 million Americans driving and talking on the phone at any given time. With that comes a four-fold increase in the risk of crashing. One example, which caused the NTSB to launch an inquiry, involved an SUV that veered off the left side of the road, jumped the median, flipped and landed on top of a vehicle driving the opposite direction. The driver was trying to negotiate high crosswinds while talking on a handheld phone. Surprisingly, using a hands-free device likely wouldn’t have made a difference. “You’d think using a hands-free phone would be less distracting,” said Anne McCartt, author of a study published in the British Medical Journal. “But we found that either phone type increased the risk.”
Sam Fine Celebrity Makeup Artist to Tyra Banks Vanessa Williams Jennifer Hudson and Queen Latifah!
Apr 27, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Books!, Celebs, Newsworthy
So, last week I had the pleasure to meet celeb makeup artist, Sam Fine. He’s worked with clientele like Vanessa Williams, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, Patti LaBelle and the famous (ahem, self-important) Ms. Tyra Banks! Did I mention he’s sweet as pie? I just wanted to hug him, oh wait, I did. Aside from the celebs he also wrote a book called Fine Beauty.

He’s got an instructional DVD coming out in May and I wasn’t going to tell y’all about it till then but I just have to share what I learned! I watched the video and you know how much I love you guys but I totally started watching and taking notes for myself too! It was such a series of A-Ha moments where I was like, ohhhh that’s how they get that look. Plus, a DVD is so much better than a book because you got to watch a pro in his element. Not to mention–it makes you realize how much makeup these gorgeous celebs have on and that you too could look perfect with a talented artist like Sam on your side. The transformations are nothing short of amazing. I love a good makeover, always my fave part of the movies that have that!
Anyway, he shows real women in the DVD, not models so you really see what magic makeup can work! Here are just a few of the glorious tips I learned!
Use a short haired brush to avoid fallout on the face from eyeshadow
Use Long Hair brushes to blend
When purchasing face makeup test it where you’re going to use it, not the side of your face
Use bronzer instead of blush and apply to the outside perimeter
When penciling in eyebrows, use short strokes to appear more realistic
Don’t drag your sponge when applying foundation, lightly stipple and use fingers to blot
Use orange/coral blushes for a soft but noticeable blush
But the most important basic of beauty is to love yourself! As always, tear! haha
The DVD will be available in late May. I’ll shoot you guys a reminder once it’s out. It’ll be available on SamFine.com and Amazon.com

French Vogue Without Photoshop– Stars without Makeup Monica Bellucci
Apr 16, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Celebs, NewsworthyVive La France!

French Vogue took a step in the right direction towards making women have realistic expectation of beauty. The most recent French Vogue cover model was shot without makeup and without photoshop. I mean she’s a naturally beautiful woman and it shows. Inside there are other famous women too photographed sans makeup or the ’shop. I mean, I’m not even advocating for models not to wear makeup but when you have Kim Kardashian losing 25 pounds via Photoshop what are curvy girls going to think? It just makes girls have unrealistic expectations and it’s not healthy. Compare US Vogue’s Last cover, which may have well have been painted by Da Vinci himself it’s so photoshopped.
