Netflix Price Hike- Such a Terrible Business Move!

Jul 13, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Newsworthy

Netflix's recent price hike doesn't seem like such a great idea to me! Upon hearing the news I immediately went online and lowered my subscription! Basically they're charging now for you to use their streaming library to watch instantly. But have any of you ever used this? It's pretty terrible and most of the movies are available on the premium movie channels, which I already subscribe to! So what gives, right?

This is a great article from the Atlantic about why the Netflix price increase is such a stupid idea! I think it will def end up costing them!

Where Would We Be Without Our Gay BFFs?

Nov 30, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Give Back, Newsworthy

So you know you (ahem, I) love Clueless and today I was totally inspired by this Cher Horowitz quote, “Now that takes care of our minds and bodies, but we should do something good for mankind or the planet for a couple of hours.”

And have we got just the site for you!!! Our gay BFF contacted us to talk about going shopping this weekend a new social networking-esque site called Friendfactor. The way it works is that you go to the website (www.friendfactor.org) and then sign up (via a Facebook add in) and invite your gay and straight friends to join. As your gay friends sign up, you can click a button to “support” them. As soon as you become a supporter, the site will educate you about the current situation for gay rights in the state where your friend lives. Down the road, Friendfactor will even let you know when crucial issue votes or discussions are coming up in the city, state or federal governments around issues that affect all of our LGBT friends!

Even if you’re not a political activista (all those rallies and wooden posts can’t be great for a fresh mani), you can get educated about the issues that affect your gay friends (did you know you can be evicted in over 50% of states for being gay?!?!?!?!?). Getting smarter definitely never hurt anybody’s mani. And let’s be honest… we definitely would have bought that horrible polka mini last year if our gay BFF hadn’t been there to snatch it out of our hands, so we kind of owe him!

How crazy is this? I was just here on Saturday looking at wedding dresses. Phew. Good thing the dresses aren't in the basement, which was flooded! Although then maybe I could get that $17,000 dress that I liked at a discount…

Skecher’s Reebok Tone Ups or MBT Quick Toning Shoes Probably Do Not Really Work

Aug 9, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Garment Review, Newsworthy

Ever wonder if those hideous, clunky shoes are doing anything for your legs, waistline or fashion dignity? Two studies from the American Council on Exercise, a nonprofit group, compared the benefits of toning shoes from Skechers, Reebok and MBT with ordinary running shoes and shockingly both studies found that there was no significant difference between any of the toning shoes and the standard running shoe. Obama Wants to Track Your Cellllllllllllll Phooooooooooooooooooone

Feb 12, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Newsworthy

Note: Ceeeeelllllllllllllllllll phoooooooooooooone was supposed to be long and drawn out. LOL.

Being a lawyer I find this debate of whether we are entitled to a reasonable expectation of privacy on our cell phones extremely interesting. (I know, I can be Elle Woods smart once in a while) Being someone who does no wrong, an angel of course, I don’t really see a problem in having the police, if need be, being able to track our cellies. In fact if it’s going to help catch criminals I’m usually all for it.

Check out this article, I found it interesting.

The real debate of course is when is it going to stop?
