Natural Relief for Menstrual Pain and PMS: mn8 4 Period Pain!
Apr 24, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: HealthI don't know about y'all but who doesn't suffer from PMS? Bloating, cramping, aches and pains, acne, etc. I've tried Advil, Midol, and chocolate, and nothing has really worked. I tried mn8, a magnetic device you clip in your knickers a couple days before your period is due to arrive and it's supposed to help with all types of PMS symptoms. May be TMI but you can even place it in your bra to reduce tenderness in that area.
mn8 uses a magnetic field in the pelvic region to hhelp improve circulation, thereby relieving cramps and reducing lactic acid. I'm not going to say that mn8 eliminates everything, but that my usual PMS symptoms were seriously subsided!
It's very discreet, and doesn't show at all.
It ain't cheap, it's $49.95 and can be purchased on www.ladycareusa.com. But if you're like me you've probably spent far more than that on pills, heating patches etc. so if you're looking for a natural cure this could be the way to go!
PS it's a pretty pink color!

The Beauty Detox Solution: Up Close and Personal With Kimberly Snyder (My Hero)
Mar 31, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, Celebs, Food and Cocktails!, Health, OrganicSo, y'all know that I have mentioned Kimberly Snyder many times. Kimberly is a certified nutritionist with tons of fabulous advice for people of all ages, she's who I got the idea for the green smoothie that everyone makes fun of me for. On this blog we believe that we should eat healthy, not only to be conscious of our weight, but because we want to live full, healthy and energetic lives! Today I met Kimberly and she is just so inspirational and fantastic, I left the event today feeling inspired to become a full vegan (don't worry friends and family I won't go cold turkey) but I had to share the news about her new book with all of you. Kimberly has a back to basics type of philosophy when it comes to nutrition, raw and fruits and veggies are the best, but she doesn't push just one unrealistic program on you. She understands that people are busy and don't want to overhaul their entire food lifestyle (think celeb clientele like Drew Barrymore, Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Channing Tatum). Kimberly has easy advice that anyone can incorporate into their diet that will leave you with big changes and a smaller waist.
If Kimberly's glowing aura and svelte figure isn't a testament to how well her nutritional guidance works, I don't know what is. She is lean, bright-eyed and bursting with energy (without drinking any coffee I might add, EVER!). What does she attribute her fabulous energy and glowing skin to? Her glowing green smoothie. Sound familiar? I have been pushing this on you guys for months now!
Her book discusses the green smoothie and how to get renewed energy and the body you've always wanted. She explains why eating high-mineral fruits and vegetables, while avoiding dairy will help you lose weight. Did you know that the order you eat your food makes a big difference? She told me about it today and I am astonished. Kim's Beauty Detox solution can virtually turn back the clock on aging. Essentially, your body as you get older accumulates a bunch of junk. If you don't keep it clean then your body is going to have to expend alot of energy getting rid of it instead of doing other essential jobs like rebuilding collagen and keeping your fine lines to a minimum. Kim's book is about making yourself beautiful from the inside out. She gives amazing alternatives to refined sugar like her raw cacao truffle recipe. I tried them today and can't wait to eat the other little to-go package she sent me home with.

Kim's a magna cum laude graduate of Georgetown University, she's visited over 50 countries to study health and beauty practices around the world. For more information about Kimberly, visit www.KimberlySnyder.net.
I don't ever like to hammer you guys to do anything but I truly believe that everyone can benefit so greatly from reading this book and talking to Kimberly. She is such a beautiful person inside and out and just the sweetest person you'll ever meet!
Here are some things to look forward to in her book: she'll tell you how you don't have to count calories if you're eating the right foods, why soy and dairy may be leading to you gaining weight even when you diet your head off, and why beauty = energy.

CELEBRITY PLASTIC SURGERY GONE AWRY: PLASTIC SURGEON SHARES TIPS ON HOW TO AVOID THESE MISHAPS
Mar 31, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, HealthIn our youth obsessed society, celebrities are under even more pressure and scrutiny to look young in order to photograph well and land A-list roles. Because celebs are viewed as trend setters, ‘regular women’ often follow their lead with over plumped lips a la Lisa Rinna, over inflated breasts, (Heidi Montag) or too much filler in the face (Fergie). Dr. Brian Glatt is an NJ Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
He explains that, “any plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery can have poor results. This can happen to anyone whether you’re a rich and famous celebrity or not. Sometimes what we want and how well it fits our body are two different things. For example, some people may be fixated on a certain nose shape or type that they see on someone else – however, that doesn’t always mean it will look good on your face shape. Dr. Glatt affirms that, “a good surgeon will try to explain to you why a certain shape may be better suited for your particular face.
He provides examples of celebrities who have gone overboard and how every day woman can avoid looking like a plastic surgery ‘don’t.’
TARA REID
Once best known for her role as high school sweetheart Vicky in American Pie, Reid is now better known for her bungled liposuction and breast implant procedure, which she received in 2004. Her bumpy breast scars, however, weren't as disconcerting as her spoiled belly: "I had body contouring, but it all went wrong," she said on The View. "My stomach became the most ripply, bulgy thing." Reid underwent reconstructive surgery in 2006, and posed for Playboy in 2009 to show off her fixed plastic surgery. Photos by Paul Smith/Featureflash (left) and FilmMagic (right).
DONATELLA VERSACE
Vice president of the high-fashion brand Versace, Donatella, 54, has gone through a series of surgeries since the 1990s. Among other adjustments, her most noticeable changes have been to her nose and lips, and her trademark swollen smackers have scored her a spot on nearly every list of plastic surgery faux pas over the past few years. JOCELYN WILDENSTEIN
This New York socialite married into a wealthy art-dealing family and began experimenting with plastic surgery in 1997, shortly before the demise of her 20-year marriage. Having spent a reported $4 million on various procedures, which are speculated to include cheek implants and numerous facelifts, her dramatic changes have earned her the nickname "Bride of Wildenstein," along with "cat woman," due to her taut, feline-like appearance. JENNIFER GREY
Although this former “Dirty Dancer” wowed them on “Dancing with the Stars” her severe nose job left her virtually unrecognizable to casting directors and the public at large. Photos by Retna Ltd.
Some of the most common plastic surgery mistakes are:
Face lift that is too tight or pulled in the wrong direction (up and out instead of vertically) . This can cause asymmetry and an unnatural look. In addition, those victims of a too tight face lift can suffer from nerve damage or poor visible scarring.
Oversized lip enhancement. Causing a clownish or unnatural "duck" look – definitely not natural or sexy.
Oversized or malpositioned breast implants. This can result in an unnatural look, uneven breasts and excess scarring from multiple procedures trying to correct the problem.
Over done nose job. Removing a bump from the top of the nose is one thing, but many people today are after that overly slender, cookie cutter button nose. Giving them an artificial, pinched nose look.
Err on the side of caution. When choosing between two surgeons, choose the one who seems a bit more conservative in his/her approach and make sure the surgeon explains the approach and why it is being used. .
These days when I see parents slathering sunscreen on their children I want to cringe, knowing that 85% of the concoctions going into their children's bloodstreams are chemicals. But what choice do we have if we want to have a day at the beach? Cover ourselves in a burka? Wear hats and sit in the shade? Enter COOLA, an organic suncare line that I am loving. There are two products I want to tell you about, Mineral Face and Mineral Body. Not only are both remarkable sun blocks, but MineralFace Tint is a terrific alternative to foundation. And who wants to layer products during the warm (and muggy) months?! I’m sure that you agree that products that multi-task are the best.
COOLA's moisture-rich signature sunblock and sunscreen products contain natural phyto-protectors, certified organic extracts, and age-defying antioxidants and vitamins that provide a fundamental boost to your skin's natural immune system. Every COOLA product line is uniquely formulated for different body parts, skin types, and active lifestyles – from the sensitive nature of FACE to the demands of SPORT, and all the way through to the new 100% natural BABY SPF.
All COOLA formulas are PABA/Paraben/Petroleum/Phthalate free and 100% made in the U.S.A!
COOLA Sunblocks have perfected the art of blending organic and natural ingredients. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are evenly distributed to maximize coverage and minimize white residue. This perfect distribution turns an opaque white Zinc and Titanium Dioxide into a transparent and greaseless application without clogging pores.
SPF 20 Mineral Face features UVA/UVB broad-spectrum protection. It's a chemical free sunblock for all skintones. I have been using it as a light foundation and I'm loving it. It's not greasy at all, which is most important to me.
SPF 30 Mineral Body is 98% natural and 80% certified organic ingredients. Its unique formulation features Vitamin C, helping reduce visible signs of aging by fighting destructive free radicals.
FTC Disclosure: I received these products as consideration for a post. As always all opinions expressed are my own. I have been waiting for an organic suncare collection for ages that I could use!
A New Segment Called, Told Ya So! Why Marathon Running is Bad for Your Heart
Mar 10, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Get-in-Shape-Girl!, HealthOkay so the New York Times article isn't that conclusive but it does show that prolonged endurance running (marathon training) is associated with heart muscle scarring. There was a study done in humans and one in rats and they both show this association. What did I tell ya? Everything in moderation people! Are you surprised? Marathons are like binge drinking for your muscles. And this concludes this segment of "Told Ya So!"
