Best Kept Secret in New York: Duane Park Dinner and a Burlesque Show! C’est Tres Chic!
Jun 2, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Restaurant Review
A few weeks ago we made reservations on a Friday night at this joint. Now, let me preface this review with the fact that the food was NOT great so I won’t waste my time regailing you with why. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. So I recommend this restaurant for drinks and the show! You can hit it up around 11 and sit at the bar and easily see the show. Or they have a late nite menu which you could come and get snacks from.
THE SHOW is where it’s at! It’s restaurants like these that make me love NYC! I mean, seriously where can you find a burlesque show with a fantastic 3 piece band anywhere else? It’s a wonder to me that this place wasn’t booked up for months! Its very classy and very 1920s! Or what I would guess 1920’s to have been like! The crowd was interesting so it made for good people watching. The woman next to us was in her 60s with 6 stunningly gorgeous men. We spent a good portion of the meal trying to decide if she was famous since she was wearing sunglasses and an oversized hat.
Brian Newman (the vocalist) was fantastic. Brian is a trumpet player and singer originally from Cleveland, Ohio. (Which we found out when we grabbed him to shower him with our compliments). After finishing at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, music led him to New York City and this is where he belongs. Performing a medley of genres with some of the most talented performers in the city, he has been called “brilliant” by Stephen Holden of the New York Times and as a band leader and a sideman, he continues to perform throughout NYC and abroad adding his personal and stylistic touch to every single note. He’s a great singer and dazzles the crowd with old favorites by superstars like Sinatra but also with old classics you never knew you’d love.
He’s also a great emcee y’all, introducing the fantabulous chickies! They were jaw-droppingly hot and so loveable (gosh I’m such a girl to say that about a half naked woman). The girls switch each week to keep the show fresh. And I apologize for not remembering names (their drinks were strong, man!) but one did a tap-dance tease and the other sang and did a strip-tease. They were both amazing. Drinks run for somewhere between overpriced and Manhattan is ridiculous but hey, you are going to spend at least $10 for a martini in NYC, you may as well get a glorious show with it, no?

Brian also plays at CORIO. Haven’t been yet but we definitely have put it on our to-do list!

Visit Duane Park Cafe in Tribeca while you can still get a reservation!
Love the LIME!!!
May 5, 2009 Author: Margaux | Filed under: Restaurant ReviewWhere did I celebrate Cinco de Mayo???
LIME ON ALTON ROAD on South Beach!!!!!!
It’s a little taco shop that doesn’t look like much but for the crazy long lines that wind out the door and around the block.
Had 3 grilled fish tacos. AMAZZZZZZZZZING!!! The fish was really fresh and the salsa was too! Deliciousness.
They had a few girls walking around giving away cups of their house-made organic, all natural margaritas and sangria and they were blasting Mexican mariachi-sounding music.
We sat outside in the little enclosed patio and enjoyed our tacos and the lively atmosphere.
Lime is super well-known to South Beach natives, and tourist-free. So, it’s obviously amazing.
Vamos a Lime ahora!!!
Miss Saigon Bistro in Coral Gables
May 5, 2009 Author: Margaux | Filed under: Restaurant ReviewI went to Miss Saigon Bistro in Coral Gables the other day with my majorly food-snobby friend.
So. Freaking. Delicious.
Even my friend who is a huuuuuuuuuuuuge foodie/amazing chef LOVED the place.
It’s at 148 Giralda Ave. in Coral Gables, near Miracle Mile.
I had a Buddha’s Feast (veggies in an amazing garlic sauce with brown rice and tofu.) It was sooooooooo delish, my carnivore friend even ate some!
My friend had the beef noodle soup (called Pho), which even I the pescetarian, must admit smelled divine. They served it with fresh bean sprouts, cilantro, lime slices, hoisin sauce and hot sauce. My friend took it home for lunch the next day–I WAS ASTOUNDED.
I’m going back as soon as I can motivate myself to go back to the Gables armed with quarters to fight the soccer moms for street parking.
Balans = Baller breakfast burritos!
Apr 28, 2009 Author: Margaux | Filed under: Restaurant ReviewAnother new-ish place in Brickell.
Balans in Mary Brickell Village.
I had an egg-white breakfast burrito and a strawberry/banana smoothie. It was delish!
You can get breakfast all day, baby! BALLER!
The place is ALWAYS packed…we sat outside and we were lucky to have gotten a table.
I’m a pescetarian and extremely picky…and there were several things on the menu I could’ve chosen.
The only complaint is that the prices are a bit high, but so are most places in Brickell…so I guess it’s all relative.
All day brunch = I’m sold.
Le Boudoir = Le Boo!
Apr 28, 2009 Author: Margaux | Filed under: Restaurant ReviewSo, I tried this new French place in Brickell called Le Boudoir.
I was MASSIVELY disappointed. It was adorable and chic and pink with bouncy pink leather couches. OK, maybe I judged the proverbial book by its cover…but it was cute!
Anyhoo…it was breakfast so I ordered “Le Special” aka eggs, toast, homemade jam, cafe au lait.
What I got would have had Denny’s and IHOP shaking their heads in shame.
I got two RUNNY ASS EGGS AND ONE PIECE OF DAMP TOAST CUT UP INTO LITTLE SQUARES. When I asked for more toast they CHARGED ME $3!!!!!!!! UGH!
The only redeeming thing about the meal was, again, the cute atmosphere.
To add insult to injury–it cost $24!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF?!
Le Boudoir? Le pass.
Sports Exchange in Coral Gables!
Apr 27, 2009 Author: Margaux | Filed under: Restaurant ReviewMy friend’s sister just opened up the Sports Exchange in Coral Gables–45 Miracle Mile to be exact!
Tell your boyfriends!!!!
It’s an upscale sports bar with an awesome bar and cool, chill, yet sophisticated and grown up atmosphere.
Put it this way: when your boyfriend drags you to a sports bar to watch a game, you actually won’t mind going!!!!
Area 31 = #1 Happy Hour in the 305!
Apr 27, 2009 Author: Margaux | Filed under: Restaurant Review305=Miami Area code if you’re a little slow.
I went here with some friends in from out of town for happy hour.
This place is brand new and sleek, stylish and sexy.
If swanky Miami poshness were a bar it would be Area 31.
This gorgeous roof-top bar is situated on the roof of the brand new EPIC condo/hotel.
Go–$5 appetizers and well drinks!!!! I had some french fries and a random juice and rum drink with a Spanish name I don’t remember. But I won’t soon forget the view!!!!
Enjoy your cheapy drinks/apps and enjoy the view of Miami’s skyline.
Both are absolutely breathtaking.
