Sneak Peak: Banana Republic Spring 2011 Collection/Campaign: Journey In Style!

Feb 2, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Fashion

Right now we are dreaming of spring over here and it seems about a billion years away. Has anyone in NYC even see the sun peak through the clouds in a month? I don't think so! And I'm not pleased! Our friends over at Banana Republic were kind enough to show us a bit of sunshine and get us excited for Spring 2011, which we're told is just around the corner (sigh…).

Banana Republic’s Spring 2011 campaign, dubbed “Journey in Style,” is inspired by the brand’s heritage of discovery. Drawing on the themes of exploration, travel, and the classic American road trip, Banana Republic has released a beautiful film trailer – a first for the brand – starring models Angela Lindvall and Jamie Dornan.

The campaign was shot against the stunning backdrop of the Vasquez Rocks, one of Southern California's most famous geologic wonders and features Banana Republic product that is modern, effortless, and full of style.

I'm loving the clothes and the general campaign. What are your thoughts! Share with me in the comments! Brighten up my day!

My New Favorite Bra with the Best Lift: This is Not a Bra Lift

Feb 2, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Fashion, Lingerie

A few weeks ago, my friends over at Warner's sent me a couple of bras to sample so that I could share my thoughts with my favorite gals, you guys my readers!

So I've been wearing my "This is Not a Bra" bras constantly. Especially the grey one, which has red lace. I can't find a picture of it and it seems kind of dirty to send a picture of my bra, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

It's a bra you can wear everyday but it definitely upgrades your traditional boring weekday bra and gives you a little lift. The lace overlay lends a little bit of beauty to my mundane weekday wardrobe. The cups are padded which I love in case the ladies get chilly, but they are also seamless to prevent visibility under my clothes. Underwire provides great support.

I have gotten numerous compliments on it also, that sounds, weird I guess. But I workout everyday with one of my besties and she loved it and so did my sister who I shopped with and changed in a dressing room. Get your minds out of the gutter!

Warner's bras are available all over the place! JCPenney's, Macy's, etc. They retail for only $34, which is less than Victoria's Secret (most bras there anyway).

To Fake or Not to Fake…That is the Question

Feb 2, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Fashion, Thoughts of the Moment

It's no surprise that it's tough out there these days, this stupid economy. And it leaves many girls wanting for more. I mean you live in NYC, with all this fabulous fashion it's only natural that you're going to want it on it…even if you don't have the budget. (Thank you Carrie Bradshaw and Friends for making us think that huge rent-controlled apartments and affordable fashions are abundant in Manhattan)

Enter, Chinatown and knock-off central. I see tons of fake bags on the subway each morning but while some girls turn their noses up at them, it makes me sad and angry at how much a designer purse costs these days. (Not that it stops me from throwing my entire paycheck at the designers.)  While I do not condone counterfeit goods, from coats, to bags, to shoes, I can't help but feel compassion for the girls who are wearing these poor Hooey Vuitton and Cucci bags.

Earlier this week another blogger (BagSnobs) started a Twitter campaign against counterfeit goods, their original tweet said:

BagSnob: Let's start each Monday w/ #SayNoToFake campaign! If u see someone with a fake bag, twitpic them. It will take all of us to stop fake bags!

How rude! Bag Snobs, we love your blog but this sounds a little Mean Girls-esque circa 9th grade. As if I'm going to go snapping pictures of these bags and the poor souls wearing them. I understand where you're coming from but I think there must be a better approach to this seemingly trivial problem.

They of course recanted the tweet and said it wasn't their intention to bully anyone but my point is that although you may be able to afford the real thing, some other girls can't. Please do not go around taunting them. Okay that's enough after-school special for me. We have some younger readers and I just wanted to clarify our POV.

Kristen Stewart in Proenza in Vogue

I love no one more than Bella Swan, err, I guess Kristen Stewart, but is it just me? I am not digging this look. I know it's the innate bias in me to like dark haired women, but I just have never dug the dark eyebrows/light hair look. What do you think? Do you think this is a no-no? Or do you like her lightened locks? Let me know in the comments.

A chic soiree was held last Thursday celebrating the opening of famed jewelry designer and 2010 CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year Alexis Bittar’s three West Coast stores. Hosted at the brand’s new digs in Venice Beach, the evening included the presence of brand friendly celebrities including Lauren Hutton, Alessandra Ambrosio and Camryn Manheim as well as a slew of L.A. socials.

Between mingling and munching on Sprinkles’ cupcakes, guests browsed Bittar’s Fall collection and enjoyed the décor of the brand’s latest space, which boasts whitewashed floors and a taxidermy installation from artist Frank J. Zitz.

Adding to the merriment of the occasion, Alizé liqueur provided custom cocktails for the evening, the Bittar Bubbly and Venice Gem, whose vibrant colors and inviting taste paralleled the brand’s eclectic and stylish aesthetic.

Here are the recipes of Alizé’s Alexis Bittar-inspired concoctions.
