Ring, Ring, It’s Avon Calling! Step into Sexy with Christy Turlington-Burns and Avon
Oct 19, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, CelebsFirst of all I must say that Christy Turlington is as sweet as she is stunning. She had endless patience as we waited for my friend to fumble with the camera to snap this shot (and 2 movies of us standing awkwardly waiting for the camera not to work). Meeting Christy brought me right back to George Michael's Freedom video. She looks as if it were yesterday. I couldn't stop staring at how gorgeous she was! She even took time to let me ask her who made her drool-worthy shoes. So in order of importance I give you the George Michael video…
and now her shoes…drumroll please…

They can be purchased at Stella Mccartney online for a mere $785.

But I digress, even though I loved her back then circa George Michael's video that was sadly (and shockingly nearly 2 decades ago). She has been quite busy since then modeling, yoga-ing, marrying the ever-so-sexy Ed Burns, designing clothing, writing, directing and becoming a mother–her most important job! Turlington nearly became a statistic in 2003 after the birth of her first child when she suffered a postpartum hemorrhage. Since then she has
Adding one more thing to her impressive resume Christy also reps Avon's fragrance, Slip Into Sexy. The scent is an oriental floral and sensual fragrance. It's very light and glamorous. Don't be confused by my uber-professional modeling photog. It's shockingly not part of Avon's campaign. Nor is this stellar snapshot below. Still learning how to use my iPhone forgive me!
Top Notes: It opens with elegant notes of black raspberry, mingled with delicate spring freesia and a whisper of fresh violet leaf.
Mid Notes: A deeper, more sensual heart reveals warm rosewood and velvety ultra violet blended with a flutter of exotic butterfly orchid.
Base Notes: Transformative Notes of creamy cashmeran sueded orris root and golden ambers unveil a sophisticated, long lasting base.
Step Into Sexy Eau de Parfum (1.7 fl oz) will be available November 2011 for $28. exclusively through Avon representatives. To locate an Avon Representative, call 1-800-FOR-AVON or visit Avon online.
Before I conclude, I can't leave this post without praising Beauty and Essex. The food and cocktails truly never disappoint. I must have scarfed down 5 lobster tacos, 4 pumpkin/goat-cheese flatbreads, 3 grilled cheese/tomato soups in a spoon, 2 tomato tartare (tomato with a quail egg on top–yes I peeled that sucker right off), and a partridge in a pear treeeeeee!! I would have photographed them if I had a spare hand! Then there were cocktails of Earl Grey and Vodka as well as cranberry infused gin (Totes forgot my love of gin! Who knew!) Homemade mini whoopee pies and macaroons were truly the perfect end to my evening!
Until I went to the bathroom on my way out and remembered why I loved this restaurant so much! Did you know that in the bathroom they serve champagne for women for free (just tip the bartender!)
The next time Avon calls I will undoubtedly answer. I will also be calling about some photography classes…Honestly I couldn't figure out how to make the lighting like this if I tried!

Gilt Partners with Christina Applegate to Fight Breast Cancer
Oct 12, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Celebs, Cheap Thrills
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Gilt has partnered with actress and breast cancer survivor Christina Applegate on a sale filled with inspiring styles from head to toe. But what we're most inspired by is Christina's grace in not only beating the disease herself, but using her enormous star power to help other women get educated about the disease. Through her foundation, Right Action for Women, the "Up All Night" star provides information on early screening and detection, treatment options, and empowerment for those afflicted. Who doesn't love this girl!
Applegate tells Gilt, "The reason I started Right Action for Women was to get the word out that this doesn't just happen to women who are over 55…I was 36 years old when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The reason that I was able to beat it was by early detection and that was by the smarts of my doctor, who said, 'Mammograms are not for you; we're going to do an MRI.' An MRI can find breast cancer many years before a mammogram can. That's something that I learned, and that I didn't know about until I found out in my own life." And the actress reminds that you can take matters into your hands—literally. "Early detection is key. Breast health is key. It's to know your body, to be able to do self-examinations, to talk to your doctor if you know that you have a history in your family on either side," she explains.
"I remember that when my mother was going through cancer, she always said to me, 'Cancer is a word, not a sentence,' Applegate tells Gilt. "And I know that there are women who come to this at different stages of cancer, but if we can wrap our heads around the idea that it's not who you are—you are not cancer, and cancer does not own you; it's a word and not a sentence—you can start there in your fight, and take your power back. Educate yourself. And try everything—from Eastern to Western medicine, everything you can—to take control back."

Who Wore it Better? Kourtney Kardashian or Amber Lancaster?
Oct 6, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, Celebs, FashionKourtney Kardashian and Amber Lancaster go head to head for a battle of the bombshells in Ted Baker. The ladies paired the same skirt and sweater combo (both by Ted Baker) for a night on the town. Kourtney paired the Ted Baker duo with a red clutch and wild python platforms for a date night with sweety Scott. Amber chose to go for a simpler look by wearing nude heels to a Teen Vogue event. Blonde versus brunette, who do you think wore Ted Baker better?
A particularly svelte-looking Cavallari wore out my fave brand the other night. I just love the red/purple contrast! She rocked it. What do you think!?!
