Healthy and Delicious Bodywash Showergel: Korres Guava Showergel

Apr 18, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

Y'all know I'm always on the lookout for awesome companies that try to have a good moral conscience and use natural, healthy and safe ingredients. My latest obsession is KORRES. It's a Greek company with roots in the first Homeopathic Pharmacy of Athens.  In fact their first product was an aromatic herbal syrup with honey and aniseed.  Cool, right? Anyway, the company today offers more mainstream products but holding to their natural roots.

I'm obsessed with the Guava showergel.  It's a creamy foamy showergel.  The gel is packed with aloe, wheat, shea butter and vitamins.  Why wheat you may ask? Well, wheat contains an abundance of B vitamins, which improves regenerative properties found in healthy skin.

Love the scent of this too. It's very sweet but not overwhelming.

Price: $19.50

Where to buy: Sephora.com

Lavera Naturkosmetik Made with Certified Organic Ingredients Best Eyeliner Ever!

Apr 18, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

I have a new obsession–Lavera's Eyeliner. It's honestly velvety soft. Ooohh. It gives the smoothest application without dragging or skipping. It's made with beeswax, vitamin E and natural pigments. In a nutshell it's awesome. The black is seriously awesome it's such a dark and rich color. I also checked it on the Cosmetic Database and it's got a great score (meaning it's safe and healthy to be putting close to your peepers!

I love the brand's makeup so much because they use certified organic ingredients whenever possible. They never use synthetic preservatives, dyes or fragrances. And especially no genetically modified ingredients or petroleum based ingredients. Do you know why that's important? Because your skin absorbs 60% of ingredients put onto the skin and it's absorbed into your bloodstream within 15 minutes.

It's prob because they're a European company and those Europeans have got higher standards than us over here!

Available for purchase on Target.com and Lavera.com

Looking to Go Green This Earth Day? Hit the Bar (Soap) and Save Money

Apr 15, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

When it comes to “going” green, most people think it’s going to cost a lot. And let’s face it, after the year we’ve all had, who can afford it?

Luckily, there are some really easy and inexpensive ways to go green this year.  For instance, did you know that switching from liquid to bar soap is one of the simplest ways to go green and actually spend less?

Fact: Bar Soaps use less packaging – most are usually packaged in recyclable cardboard boxes – and weigh less than their liquid soap counterparts. Meaning they need less fuel to transport and take up less room in landfills. According to Country Living Magazine,“Substituting one bottle with a bar in each U.S. home would keep 2.5 million pounds of plastic out of landfills.” Also, less of the product goes down the drain during use, so you get more bang for your buck.

So next time you browse the soap aisle why not consider picking up a bar of Yardley of London all natural or Botanical soaps.

One of my fave drugstore soap brands are Yardley of London.

Available at your local supermarket or drugstore Yardley soaps are all less than $3 a bar.

BURT’S BEES ASKS AMERICA TO FIND THEIR BURT

Apr 13, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, Health, NYC Activities

Earth Day is just days away, so I wanted to share some information on what Burt’s Bees—one of our fave natural personal care companies—is doing to celebrate  Earth Day's 40th Anniversary!

To celebrate the day Burt's Bees is making a nod to none other than their namesake and co-founder, Burt Shavitz. Burt is no newcomer to the green arena: The beard and spirit behind the earth-friendly company participated in the first Earth Day celebration four decades ago and has been living lightly on the planet ever since.  Did you even know he was a real guy? I sure didn't! Turns out he's this awesome dude who lives up in Maine, and unlike most corporate execs, he actually embodies what his company stands for!

Burt has brought his love and respect for the natural world into the everyday practices of Burt’s Bees for 25 years, and now he’s encouraging New York locals to “Find Their Burt” by discovering the earth-friendly potential we all share.

On Earth Day, Burt’s Bees will be in New York offering up free samples and fruit smoothies powered by bike blenders.  Burt’s Bees look-a-likes will be inspiring the crowds to adopt some “Burt” habits and facial features—beards!!

Even if you can't make it to the Earth Day festivities, you can still "Find Your Burt," at home by visiting www.FindYourBurt.com. The website invites you into Burt’s world and lets you "Burtify" a pic of yourself. Yep–when you're bored at work you can add a Burt beard to you or your fave co-workers picture. The real-time tool modifies elements of Burt on your image based on your eco-motives. The Burt possibilities are endless and so are the ways to love the Earth.

This April, visit FindYourBurt.com to learn more about how Burt’s Bees is living The Greater Good™ and discover your own inner (and outer) Burt.

Standby for some earth day giveaways!

Rimmel Launches New Spring 2010 Products in America: London Style for the American Girl and the Rimmel 10!

Apr 8, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

Cheers, Birds! That's London-speak for Hi Dolls. Right. You know. I know. Moving on. Yesterday I had the pleasure of getting to check out Rimmel's newest products that are launching in the USA. And along with the 10 product lines they brought their fabulous Rimmel 10. What am I talking about you ask? Well, Rimmel picked ten fab girls, each with a unique sense of style. They're all ages, some still in high school and all with different careers and hobbies. Rimmel has assigned them the task of helping to bring the London look to the US. The girls receive makeup (enough to share with all their friends in fact) and are given different challenges (like not wearing any makeup and then after the hiatus, experimenting with all their fave products again.

Each girl received a different product (one blush, one bronzer, one nail polish, etc.) and then gave myself and the other blogger ambassadors their take. The girls were each cuter than the next. They can be seen on Rimmel's website here

Alyssa from Nashville.

Gavin from LA.

The girls gave us their rundown of all the products. And they had some seriously awesome ideas. Like for example, Julie from NYC who had the pleasure of experimenting with the eyeshadows created her own Balenciaga inspired looks (remember? think bold eyes!) She's assured me that the shadows feel anything but cheap and says that she can use them as pigments almost. Bonus? She's a rocker and she promises they last her entire show without rubbing off. There you have it, Spice girl approved. They're $3.49 a pop and come in awesome shades like peacock night, royal violet and more. Think bold, fun colors for summer. I got to play with some (and of course got to take a few home) and they're really creamy and go on very smoothly.

There are many product reviews to come! For now here are some exciting tidbits we thought you'd enjoy:

The lipsticks are moisturizing and contain SPF 15. We've been assured that they will not leak into your surrounding mouth lines for those of you riper readers out there!

The lip gloss smells divine. I smelled that myself. Yum!

The nail polish brush is sweet! It's super thick and dries very glossy.

One of my fave things about this makeup is also the packaging. I mean, I think I'm a princess so I love that my makeup is stamped with a crown!

I'm pumped to have these fun, new products in store soon. Farewell overpriced department stores! Let 'em eat cake!
