Get The Look: Nancy O’Dell’s Golden Globes Red Carpet Beauty

Jan 17, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, Hair Stylin'

RUSK Official Spokesperson and Entertainment Tonight Co-host Nancy O'Dell looked stunning in red as she caught up with celebs at last nights 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards.  Hitting the red carpet long into the night, O’Dell knew she needed her hair to stay in place and look fabulous for hours, so celebrity hairstylist Bobby H. Grayson created an elegant chignon.  Today, Grayson is sharing his step-by-step tips for re-creating Nancy’s winning look:

Step 1:  Grayson began by applying RUSK’s Deepshine Oil to Nancy’s towel-dried hair.
“This oil is perfect for eliminating frizz and leaves hair with a brilliant shine. I suggest applying Deepshine to damp hair prior to thermal styling as the formula also protects against heat damage” – Bobby H. Grayson

Step 2: Grayson blew out Nancy’s hair using a round boar bristle brush and began creating sections.  He then used the sections to work RUSK’s CTC Technology Hot Rollers into the hair and let set for 20 minutes before removing.
“The rollers created loose, soft curls which provided a voluminous base for the final look.” – Bobby H. Grayson

Step 3: Grayson gathered Nancy’s hair into a low pony tail – gently combing through hair at the crown of the head to create a smooth and polished look.  He then began twisting the pony tail and gathering the hair hair to create a low chignon at the nape of the neck.  Grayson secured the hair using both long hair pins and smaller bobby pins.
“Chignon’s can be tightly secured and polished like Nancy’s look or can be worn loose and messy for a different look altogether.  Since Nancy has longer bangs, I let them frame her face for a flirty edge.” – Bobby H. Grayson

Step 4: For the finishing touch, Grayson sprayed a light misting of RUSK’s W8less Hair Spray around Nancy’s look.  This firm holding spray was essential for securing her strands and keeping her red carpet ready for hours.

RUSK is available online at: Stylesource.com and can also be purchased at salons nationwide and ULTA locations.

Get Younger Looking Skin…NOW! No Surgery Needed.

Jan 16, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

However, the most expensive and radical procedures and products are not always the best answer.  The most important lesson Dr. Gerald Imber (www.drimber.com) has learned from performing several thousand facelifts is that looking young and staying young is about more than surgery.

Following are some of  the easiest steps you can take advantage of today to start to slow (and reverse) the effects of aging.  They incorporate Dr. Imber’s  modern take on anti-aging  and  unique philosophy of prevention * maintenance * correction.

Don’t…

Don’t  Smoke. The result is loss of elasticity, sagging and wrinkles.

Don’t gain or lose weight repeatedly.  Skin that does not respond to weight loss by shrinking looks loose, empty and haggard. The older you are or the more weight you need to lose, the more likely this problem will arise. Avoid significant weight gain, lose slowly and, above all, find your optimal weight and maintain it..

Don’t get too thin. Hollow cheeks and thin skin makes an adult look frail, weak and old.

Don’t Run.  At least don’t be a long-term, long-distance jogger.  The loss of fat padding in the cheeks as well as the constant rising and pounding down which lifts and pulls the facial skin away from the underlying muscles and bones causes the skin to sag.  These things have a negative effect on one’s appearance.

Don’t do Facial exercises. They cause wrinkles.

Avoid the Sun.  It’s the primary accelerator of loosening and wrinkling of the skin.  It causes pigment changes, sunspots and other unsightly eruptions.

Don’t Passively Stretch Skin.  When you prop your hand on your cheek or wash and apply products in a downward motion, you are passively stretching your skin.

Do…

Cleanse, use anti-oxidants and moisturizers.

Towel off briskly for exfoliation.  It helps remove heaped-up dead skin cells and allows healthy young cells to reach the surface. Always go from the down to up direction to avoid stretching the skin downward to help gravity.  Be gentle and do not apply much pressure.

Apply skin treatments and serums to clean, dry skin.

Make sure anti-oxidants penetrate the skin.Vitamin C and vitamin E are among the  most potent antioxidants for treating the skin, but if they can’t get into the skin, they can’t work their magic.  Dr. Imber created Youth Corridor (www.youthcorridor.com)Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum with 10% Vitamin C, E and Melatonin to allow a larger dose of antioxidants to penetrate through the keratinized layer of the skin due to melatonin’s lipophillic nature.

Moisturizers with a sun screen are a must to protect from the sun.  If a sunscreen is used separately it should be applied before the moisturizer so it can penetrate.

Dr. Imber is one of the world's leading plastic surgeons with decades of experience in plastic surgery and facial rejuvenation.  He has authored numerous scientific papers and given lectures on prevention and correction of facial aging, written several books about the care and maintenance of a youthful appearance, including the revolutionary best-selling, anti-aging manual, The New Youth Corridor and created a skin care line featured in magazines such as W and Harper's Bazaar that delivers large doses of antioxidants for proven results.

Trendy Holiday Hairstyles 2010 Made Easy!

Dec 20, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, Hair Stylin'

Get your party-ready hairstyles for every occasion. Whether you’re attending a holiday cocktail party or grabbing a cocktail to escape holiday parties, perfectly styled hair is a must. Expert stylist Edward Tricomi of the Warren-Tricomi Salon explains what looks work for the season and how to achieve them:

THE LOOK: Festive French Twist

Instantly create this look for any holiday party. Start by using an extra-strength hairspray all over your hair.  Next tease around the crown of the head with a fine toothed comb.  Next, pull the sides back and smooth back with a soft-bristled brush, then twist hair while rolling under to create a French twist.  Re-tease the top hair that was left out of the style and create a bouffant on the top of the head and secure the hair at the further crown of the head with hair pins and create the ultimate holiday look.

THE LOOK: Romantic Long Waves

“This glammed-up, romantic evening look is easier than most women think,” assures Tricomi. “All you’re doing is taking hair and making it wavy—no updo or pins needed. To get this look, spray hair with hairspray to protect hair from heat and sculpt waves. Then set hair in large Velcro rollers or hot rollers to create an accentuated wave and remove after 10 minutes.  Finish by rubbing some gel or pomade on flyaways to keep hair sculpted and matte, but still soft and manageable.”

THE LOOK: The Undone Up-do

Holiday hair doesn’t have to be sleek and smooth—break the rules with this tousled look. Start by spraying a volumizing spray on damp hair at the roots and hairline before blow drying.  Next, use a barrel curling iron to create loose waves, shaking them out to create texture.  Twist small sections of the hair in the front and pull them back, securing with hairpins.  Do the same with pieces in the back, without making it too symmetrical or perfect. Lastly, finish with a flexible hold hairspray to hold this holiday style all night.

Completely Bare Laser Hair Removal Opens New Location in Rockefeller Center

Nov 30, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, Lifestyle, Love and Travel
Get ready to bare it all, ladies. My favorite laser hair removal treatment center has opened another location in the gorgeous Sports Club/LA location in Rockefeller Plaza in NYC. Now it's even easier for me to get touch-ups with this centralized locale. You know I've been documenting my laser hair removal experience each time I go but imagine my excitement when I heard that they were giving away one free treatment (*to anyone who could get an appointment). I quickly ran in for a touch up on my bikini area (pre-Costa Rica!) and got to check out the new space. Well, as you can imagine, Sports Club/LA is a drool-worthy gym facility where they give you workout clothes for each sweat-sesh. I tried to choke back the tears visualizing myself at the ghetto-NYSC I frequent during my lunch hour. I was lead down through the locker room into the treatment room. I have to say, it's not quite the same spa experience you get at other locations (since you do go through a locker room) but it's still immaculate and modern, which makes you feel comfortable. The laser they used on me was different than the one I've been testing out at the 5th avenue location, which is one pulse of light that shoots all the folicles at once. This laser shot each hair one at a time. I am told they do the same job and that it's just a personal preference but if you get to choose, I'd definitely go for the one that does the one pulse, I find it to be less painful. But that's just me, I'm more of a rip the band-aid all off at once kind of girl. The good thing about this laser though is that the hairs don't seem to be frozen in place after the treatment for as long. We had a friend of ours call up and get an appointment too, a male friend might I add. He did the laser treatment for his back. Here's the good part, he said it wasn't painful at all (as I would imagine it to hurt far less than my inner thigh!) but the somewhat ridiculous part? CB considers the back to be three separate parts–the shoulders, the upper back and the lower back. That can really run you a large bill considering that each treatment area for the upper back alone is $425. I know that it's techinically way more skin than a bikini area but it still seems a bit much. But you know what it still costs less over timei probably if your hubby is waxing his back all the time…or not enough…at least this will get rid of it for real. I'll keep you posted on how the treatment works for my friend!

The new rooms are great and the location is fab. I'd definitely check it out if you work or live near the Rockefeller Center area. As always the laser hair removal is top notch and I am always impressed with results.
