Cupcakes on the Move!! Cupcake Stop and Treat Truck Deliver Happiness All Around Manhattan!

Jan 22, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Food and Cocktails!, Lifestyle, Love and Travel

Lawyers + Cupcakes= True Love??

As many of you dolls know I graduated from the infamous New York Law School or NYLS as I lovingly call it. I took the Bar Exam and now work as a lawyer by day. While studying those last excruciating months my friend and I always joked about quitting and just opening up a cupcake shop! Well, Lev Ekster,  a fewllow NYLS alum has done just that!

Cupcake Stop is his creation. After he graduated he decided to ditch the bar exam and the meager offerings of the legal job market and  start Cupcake Stop, a the first mobile cupcake shop that brings NY’ers cupcakes on their own terms. The truck travels around the city and sells cupcakes to starving citygoers. You can even follow them on Twitter to find out where they’ll be delving out their delicious treats.

For those of you who know me, I’m quite the cupcake connoisseur. I’m an avid fan of the tiny treat and have them almost weekly. The best part though is how delicious they are. Honestly, the cupcakes put Magnolia and Buttercup to shame. In my opinion Magnolia’s cupcakes are dry and rock hard, I honestly don’t even eat them when I’m given them for free–and let me tell you, turning down free food is NOT a strength of mine. Buttercup’s frosting keeps me coming back but their cake is nothing to brag about. These cupcakes are divine. The frosting tastes like what my grandma used to make, it’s THAT good.

They also have the funnest flavors around!!  Brownie cheesecake, Key Lime, German Chocolate, Funfetti, Fluffernutter, Peppermint Chocolate, Black and white cookie cupcakes, Banana chocolate chip, Strawberry Shortcake and more! (and of course the usual suspects as well.)

I just couldn’t believe how fresh they were. Yum!! Find out when they’ll be in your hood below:

Natural Dry Skin Treatment: Skin MD Natural My New Fave Moisturizer

Jan 20, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

A few weeks ago I was approached by Skin MD Natural,  a company that claimed to have a moisturizer that was different than all other moisturizers. As usual, the lawyer in me was skeptical. I received the sample just as my skin was having a breakdown and thirsting for moisture in the dead of winter like never before.  I tried all of my many moisturizers first and when they didn’t work I decided to try Skin MD Natural.

Unlike most moisturizers, which are artificial, Skin MD natural doesn’t just add moisture to the surface it helps repair the skin’s natural barrier against moisture robbing irritants. Continued use of artificial moisturizers can cause the skin to actually begin producing less of its own natural oils, thinking that the skin has enough moisture. This can cause skin to form a dependence on the moisturizer for hydration–which has always been my biggest nightmare. Skin MD Natural breaks the dry skin cycle by working to help restore skin’s natural protective abilities by bonding to the outer layer of skin, strengthening skins natural barrier against toxins and irritants that can dry the skin, while locking in the skin’s natural oils.

Does it actually do that? I’m not sure but my skin hasn’t been flaking since I started to use it.

Even more importantly–all ingredients are considered to be of food grade and are also on the FDA’s most safe list. It is free of harmful fragrances, parabens, and colorants making it hypoallergenic.

Burt’s Bees Healthy Acne Treatment: Spot On! Natural Acne Solutions Review

Jan 20, 2010 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

I’m as depressed as you would think a 29-year old would be who is still having frequent breakouts. I also hate hate hate smothering my face in acne products that are spattered with chemicals and other drying agents.  Enter Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions.

I’m so excited that my fave brand, Burt’s Bees stepped into this arena. Here is  quick run-down:

It helps control acne without causing irritation. When I used Clearisil on the other side of my face on similar blemishes my face was far dryer than the Burt’s Bees side.

The key ingrediant is still Salicylic acid, which is derived from Willow Bark in Burt’s product. In most other acne products it’s synthetic, which truly scares me.  It also has Tea Tree extract which soothes the skin.

It is $9.99 for a small .26 fl. oz.  bottle (recyclable glass bottle–wahoo!). It is pretty small and kind of goes quickly if you’re not careful but to me the extra few bucks is worth it for a more natural and healthy product.

This is sold wherever your fave Burt’s Products are sold. Even many Bed Bath and Beyonds carry them (and you can bring your handy dandy 20% off coupons and save a bundle!)
