Beauty is in the Eyes of Intelligent Nutrients…
It wasn’t long ago that I started this blog and was obsessed with mainstream beauty products and fancy cosmetics brands. However, I have redefined what is beautiful to me after hearing Horst Rechelbacher, founder of Aveda, speak at the HBA Beauty Expo in NYC. It was that day that I began to grasp what true beauty meant—something that isn’t poisoning me slowly…is that too much to ask?
Horst recounted research he pioneered at the Mayo Clinic proving just how toxic us “beautiful” cosmetics are. For instance, did you know that the best way to put toxins in your bod is to put them on your lips? Bam! They’re in your bloodstream within seconds. Did you know that 95% of diseases come from toxic environments? Rechelbacher believes that plants are the best chemists and that they should be used in products, not synthetics. His mantra is that safe is beautiful and believes this is the future. In fact, he joked, in a few years, many cosmetics will need warning labels just like cigarettes. After an inspiring lecture, Horst challenged us all to read Not Just Another Pretty Face. After I read this is, his words had even more meaning.
I had high hopes for Intelligent Nutrients and felt like a little [Jewish] girl on Christmas morning when my package of samples arrived. After using some of these products made with essential oils and food-grade ingredients sans petrochemicals I can honestly say that I feel beautiful!
The next morning, after the gym, I raced to the shower to try out my new goodies. I was surprised at first to find that the Hair Cleanser didn’t foam. Now for those of you who haven’t used organic products you should know before trying them out that they are a little diff on account that they’re missing your favorite toxins. After a quick Google I realized that the “suds” actually come from chemicals so I instantly kissed the lather a fond fairwell, onto cleaner and greener pastures.
On my quest to Greenify my life I’ve hit up health stores and organic markets but I’ve found that many “organic” brands still contain toxins, such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate. In fact many companies claiming to be made with “organic ingredients” aren’t as healthy as you’d think. Intelligent Nutrients Hair Cleanser is 70% organic, certified by UK’s Soil Association and the Conditioner is 95% organic, certified by the USDA and that’s just one more reason I like it. I feel safe no matter what product I pick up. Not only are these products safe, but they actually enhance your health.
The products are tannish-brown (ahem, natural) color, which is diff than many bleached or colored products, but again in a good way. Why do I need those extra colorants, which are unnatural going into my body? I don’t want someone bleaching my broccoli pink do I?
I was nervous that the products were going to smell bad based on its color , but never judge a book by its cover—it smells delish! It smells like how a spa smells. It’s earthy but a little minty and very clean smelling. The first day I used it I actually got 2 compliments on my hair’s scent if that tells you anything.
Intelligent Nutrient’s ingredients are so high qual they can literally be ingested by you (should you just be that hungry in the shower LOL). In fact, at the introductory lunch for press over the summer in NYC, attendees were presented with a special cocktail; a wineglass full of Intelligent Nutrients Perfect Hold Hairspray topped off with Pellegrino. Horst did this because hairspray is one of the most problematic products in terms of toxins and he wanted to illustrate that it’s possible to make one so safe that you could drink it! Horst then proceeded to guzzle it down.
This is the first organic line that I really feel I know is totally safe for me and my family, so thank you, Horst and all those at Intelligent Nutrients. I will be reporting more as I delve deeper into my box full of Intelligent Nutrient goodies. Products can be purchased at IntelligentNutrients.com
Hair Cleanser is $29.00. My hair felt just as clean as when I use other non-organic shampoos. As I said, it takes a bit of getting used to since it doesn’t “suds” up like brands you’re probably used to.
Conditioner is $34.00
Leave in Conditioner (aaa-mazing!) is $29.00. I slathered this on my hair after my shower and my hair instantly detangled without any angry snags. Plus I wasn’t so nervous when my newly conditioned hair touched my skin as I usually am, feeling like I’m dousing myself in chemicals.
If you’re anything like me there is just no way that you’re going to go completely organic, I mean, I live in NYC not on a farm. There are just too many tempting products to pass up. However, I’ve made a serious effort to go organic on everyday products that I feel really get ingested through my pores. Then on products that I only use once a week or when I’m going out I figure it’s okay to use non-orgo products.

We give this organic line 4 (out of 4) Green Thongs up!
