Swine Flu Precautions How to Stay Swine Flu Free in 09! Wahooo!
Oct 14, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Health
My beloved Spring Break reference may have more to it than meets the pun! Smartypanties just wants to remind you to stay healthy and practice simple precautions to help you ward off the flu of the swine!
You may have gotten a similar forward from someone who likes you (cue Mommy) about some tips that Doctors have been giving patients but just a friendly reminder of some tips:
1. Frequent hand-washing. (I like Method Naked Soap! Fragrance Free!)
2. “Hands-off-the-face” approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face. So stop picking your nose and rubbing your eyeballs! It messes up your makeup anyway.
3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don’t trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don’t underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.
4. Blow your nose hard once a day to get viral stuff outta there.
5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.
6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.
*As always I have no medical background, other than my hypochondriasis, which comes with years of being a crazy jewish girl!!
Oh yeah, and if you’re in college–stay away from Flip cup where you’re using the same cups over and over with dirty nasty strangers. Also, ladies try to practice some self control and don’t go around kissing every frog you see! You’ll thank me when your Saturday night Romeo turns out to be infected with Swiney!

Contemporary Designer Announces INÈS Collection for the 40 Million Plus-Sized American Women Starved by the Market |
NEW YORK, NY–Jacqueline Floro, designer and owner of contemporary line Bilingual Clothing, has had her collection worn by celebrities such as Blake Lively, Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Jessica Biel, Halle Berry and more. She is about to shake up the contemporary design world by introducing INÈS Collection, a plus-size clothing line for women sizes 10 and up. Featuring long and short dresses, and tops with drawstring and pin-tuck details, INÈS Collection brings Floro’s contemporary aesthetic of Bilingual Clothing to the 40 million American women who have previously been invisible to contemporary designers — because they are over size 14.
“I love Bilingual. It is and will always be my baby, but friends and family of mine that happen to be a size 10 and up begged and pleaded for me to make beautiful clothing to fit them. These women are so excited about fashion, but the unfortunate lack of attention paid to them by the design community has forced them to shop at low-quality, mass retailers just to find something that ‘works’ and is a minimal investment for them,” explains Floro. INÈS Collection is their answer, with tops starting at $55.00 and dresses starting at $96.00 for the Resort/Pre-spring 2009/2010 collection.
In testing the response to early designs from INÈS Collection at trunk shows and other consumer shopping events, Floro could not have been more thrilled with the remarkable response: “Women would write me passionate, heartfelt emails thanking me for finally creating something attractive and exciting for the plus-size women of the world. Smaller-sized women would ask the sales reps if the styles came in their sizes, to which they politely answered, ‘No, I’m sorry it doesn’t come in your size.’ Something plus size women have been forced to hear… forever!”
Currently the INÈS Collection can be found exclusively on www.shoptranslated.com. To view the Resort/Pre-Spring 2010 PDF lookbook, please follow this link: http://bit.ly/INESrps10.

How to Go Green and Be Natural Organic For Less Money!
Oct 11, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Smarty-PANTRIESSo even though being organic is really important to me, it can be f-ing expensive!!

The best tip I can give you to save money is to buy frozen!
Make yourself a smoothie in the morning with Frozen raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and grass fed milk organic milk.
Use frozen veggies for stir fry or chilli! They get a lil soggier than fresh veggies but chances are they’re collected when they’re at the peak of their season meaning more vitamins for you and more money in your wallet!!

Best Fake Eyelashes: Revlon Fantasy Lengths
Oct 11, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty
So, when I got these in the mail from Revlon I was like ick. I couldn’t imagine that these would work well after I tried the NYC brand I spoke about here, which didn’t stick to my lashes for even a wink!
I must say, I am so happily surprised. They are worth batting your eyes over. There is no messy glue tube involved at all. They are self-adhesive and stick right on. They are for use for the more glamorous occasion than an everyday use. I wore them to BLT Market last night where I went with my BFF since preschool. She is the most critical girl eva and she couldn’t get over how real they looked. They also come with an extra self-adhesive strip, which I added on top to give the look of super thick liner.
Best part: They came off easy and left no mess behind. I didn’t even have to use any makeup remover at all!
Styles range from natural to glamorous, so you can choose the eyelash that completes the look you’re going for.
They’re available at CVS, Ulta and Drugstore.com
Runner up in the Fake Eyelashes Department if you can handle the glue: Kiss

They do look awesome once you get them on. The glue isn’t that hard to put on either.
