Elisa Solomon Jewelry: Struck Gold…with a little bit of Rock and Roll

Aug 24, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Jewelry

Elisa, the creator of this fabu line is not only a fellow NY-er, Michigan alum but also grew up in my hometown on Cleveland, OH. You’d think that’d make me biased, but truthfully I hadn’t seen Elisa since I graduated high school. On your average New York Sunday we were wandering the streets before a NY brunch outside Penelope in Murray Hill and we ran into her. She’s such a sweetie and while catching up I learned about her jewelry line. She’s inspired by a simpler and sweeter time, the 60s…Her designs are loveable and filled with daisies, peace signs and beautiful jewels. While I fell in love with the designs almost immediately I was even more surprised to see who else had…read on below…

The collections are definitely affordable when you feel like treating yourself to something nice…or when someone else does…hint hint BF…

Here are some of our faves (slash a shopping list for anyone who owes me a bday present :) In case I forgot to mention chickies, I turned the dreaded age of 28…my scary age growing up…so don’t I deserve some jewels!?

I Love I Love I Love My Calendula Girls (err…cream)!! Jurlique Calendula Cream Maggie Gyllenhall Favorite

Aug 24, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

So, as you know I deal with lots of PR firms who keep me abreast of the latest and bestest beauty products out there. So, I had gotten a few press releases about Jurlique Skin Care line and being the total beauty snob that I’ve become since I’ve had the joy to try so many new products, I totes judged a book by the cover and since I never heard of it, decided not to try it for a bit. Then a little later I got an email saying that Maggie Gyllenhal frequents their day spa in London and of course, true to celebrity-following-whore that I have apparently become the little voice in my head was like ooooh maybe you should try it.

What happened? Batman’s leading lady did not do me wrong! This cream was put to the test after my Vermont trip. After many hours spent in and next to the pool in serious heat my skin was dry as could be when I returned to the city. It worked wonders on my thirsty complexion.

A soothing, non-greasy cream rich in calendula and witch hazel, to restore and condition delicate skin. Ideal as an after-sun moisturiser.

As I always prefer, it’s paraben free!

Visit Jurlique for this and more products.

Cheap Affordable Organic Skincare, Haircare and More! Juice Organics Cleanser and Skin Brightening Moisturizer

Aug 24, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty

Are you a Cheap Juice like me? Get it? Cheap Juice?  See, but I’m a jew so I can say that…

Okay, so we just tried Juice Organics. This is the same company who makes Juice Beauty line. The diff? (from what we can gather anyway since we haven’t tried much of their Beauty line) just cheaper and less concentrated. Oh and it’s made with like 5 organic ingredients instead of 26. It’s still made with all organic ingredients and is completely vegetarian and cruelty free. Nothing to scoff at!

Its number one selling point? It’ll save you some dough. It’s basically comparable to Yes to Carrots pricepoint, which is sold in drugstores (BUT it’s all organic and free of virtually all things bad for you). To get an idea of price diff between the Organics/Beauty line, Juice Organics Nourishing Cleanser is $9.99, whereas 6 ounces of the Juice Beauty Cleansing Gel is more than double the price at $22.00.

Quality- I tried the cleanser and the daily moisturizer. I liked them both definitely as much as I like my other organic cleansers I’ve bought in the drugstore. I think it’s great quality if you’re trying to do budget-friendly beauty product that is organic (which of course to me is very important). I like feeling like if I get some in my eyes or mouth that it’s not a big deal and I’m not choking down harsh chemicals.

Superficial Stuff: Should you choose to go au nautrale, keep in mind that it’s not going to smell fruity or flowery like perhaps you’re used to. But this is a good thing (to me at least)! Yes, your other average cleanser may smell intoxicatingly glorious but the truth is, it’s just synthetic fragrance (suspected to cause cancer, yes yes we know, everything does, but I’d rather eat some carcinogenic deliciousness than smother my face in it…you see, it’s all about balance).

If you’re trying to go green on a budget, I definitely recommend giving this line a whirl! Let us know what you think in the comments!

*In the spirit of full disclosure as always, we received samples of this product for this review but no compensation FYI!
