Lindsay Lohan Too Skinny–AGAIN!

Jan 28, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Celebs

Lindsay Lohan’s publicist defended her current super-thin (CODE: Anorexic) physique, saying “we recently did a photo shoot and Lindsay ate two full meals.”

Umm is that something to be proud of?

Celeb Blog D-listed asked “So…she ate a Twix bar?” We thought that was funny.

Seriously though- such a bad rolemodel! And she looks nasty…ok not Nasty per se…but she’s on her way…

No it’s totally normal to have a 14 inch waist…rightttttttttt…..

So she eats her fingers instead…

We miss Curvier Lindsay like this above–we also miss Ankle Bracelet Lindsay. What a Barbie doll idea…

Deluxe Honeydrop- flavorful, low calorie, organic, healthy beverage

Jan 27, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Food and Cocktails!

So after reading about all the health benefits of honey we decided to taste what all the “buzz” was about.  We tried lots of beverages claiming to be sweetened with honey but were unhappily surprised when we found that most drinks claiming to be sweetened with honey use a low-quality substance that’s composed of only 30% actual honey and then filled wtih extra additives. We got really into the idea of finding a drink that used honey instead of sugar or sugar-substitute. So one night during our evening jaunt on the internet we decided to look up various honey-related articles (LOSER–we know!). Then we were introduced to Deluxe Honeydrop. They produce organic honey and juice infused flavored waters.

This company has such a cool story behind it. First of all the owner’s name is David Luks, aka Deluxe (we’re a sucker for cute names). After surviving cancer David learned to study the benefits of the organic lifestyle (did I mention every drop in these drinks is organic?). What does that mean? Free from artificial preservatives, sweeteners and chemical pesticides found in many products we consume daily.

Then I looked up the benefits of Honey-

  • Naturally has antioxidants, vitamins and minerals
  • Gives lasting energy because it’s a complex carb- it won’t spike your sugar level. Burns slow for lasting energy!
  • Alleviate sore throats and coughs more effectively than most cough medicines (Penn State University says so!
  • Protects against diabetes, obesity and hypertension
  • Reduces swelling and scarring

Even the bottles are organic! They contain no BPA’s which i’m told are possibly carcinogenic.

Now I’m typically a water-only girl (unless it’s after 5 for cocktails) because I feel like Vitamin Waters, etc. do more harm to you by feeding your body so much sugar. But these are something I could work with! For only 80 calories in the entire bottle I won’t even have to increase my cardio!

Currently deluxe honeydrop waters are available for purchase at Whole Foods, and select spas and yoga centers.

This drink is the Bee’s Knees!!!!

Childhood Revisited–Little Debbie Shrinks Down to 100-Calorie Snack Packs

Jan 27, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Food and Cocktails!

I just heard my very own teeny tiny Hallelujah chorus as I wrote the title! These were our fave snacks growing up as a kid and now they’re available in pre-portioned figure-friendly portions for the “health” conscious. Okay, okay so I’m not the most health conscious person but I am calorie conscious…occasionally. And individually portioned sizes help me exercise self-control that I don’t otherwise often exhibit. I know these may cost a little more than me just portioning out the snack myself but it’s worth it. For piglets like me, it’s priceless…

Check these out! They’re sure to delight any true American snack-a-holic!

I will undoubtedly hunt these down and report back about whether or not these classics taste as good as their delishhhhh counterparts. We already found Twinkies in the 100-cal packs–they are DIVINE!

DIY Dry Cleaning

Jan 27, 2009 Author: Margaux | Filed under: Beauty

I’m so over paying some random person zillions of dollars to douse my clothes in chemicals.

I invented a smart little trick of my own to clean “dry-clean only” clothes.

Keep in mind: this only works when clothes are simply in need of a refresher.  Do not do this if your clothes are seriously dirty/stained/or stinky because I don’t know how helpful this technique is.  (IE: I still use the dry cleaner when I spill something on silk.)

Here’s what I do:  if I get home from the office and my clothes are a bit wilted, I spray them with AntiMicrobial FeBreeze, toss them in the dryer along with 2 Bounce Dryer Sheets, and turn on the dryer for the lowest setting.

When the dryer cycle is finished, my clothes smell amazing and feel like I just had them dry-cleaned!

I did it on my boyfriend’s dress shirt after he came home from work one day and even he was amazed.  That’s a stinky, sweaty boy, people!  If my little trick worked for him, it’ll work for you!!!!

Try it the next time your dry-clean only shirt looks a bit rumpled–no need to drop $10 to get it dry-cleaned!!!!

Rossini’s Restaurant- Best Italian Cuisine and Atmosphere in New York City–Complete with Live Music!

Jan 26, 2009 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Restaurant Review

Article by: Elizabeth Berwitt and Katie too a little :)

A couple weeks ago, my parents came to NYC to celebrate my Dad’s birthday. Since we wanted this celebration to be extra special, I (Elizabeth) made it my mission to find the perfect restaurant for dinner, and let me tell you, Mission Accomplished!

Now, I don’t know about your parents but ours don’t equate a delicious NYC meal with foie gras, Cornish hens, or escargot (and neither do we)! Much like myself and my sisters, my parents like Italian restaurants that serve hearty portions of homemade pastas, rich sauces and staple Italian dishes like Chicken Parm and Penne alla Vodka. Rossini’s opened its doors back in 1978 and have been perfecting traditional Italian cuisine ever since!

From the minute we walked in we were immediately comforted from the Arctic blast outside by the warm, cozy atmosphere at Rossini’s. We sat in the main dining room where I felt like we were transported to a traditional Italian home. Although the food does not come cheap at Rossini’s, it’s worth the price (which relative to upscale Italian restaurants is average). If you’re lucky to snag a reservation on a Saturday night, there are 2 live opera singers and a piano player (Trio Romantica!) which starts at 8PM and lasts throughout the entire evening! (Sunday-Friday there is still a piano player) The Italian opera singing was incredible and the singers even took requests, including songs from Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and our favorite Broadway shows such as Les Mis. It’s a recession-proof way to see live music. The price is built right into your entrees! Our reservation was at 7:30PM, but we had such a great time that we wound up staying a full 4 hours! The culmination of the evening was when the entire restaurant was on their feet dancing to Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York. By the time dessert came, we truly felt like our waiter was part of the family. The Maitre de even had his arm around my Dad!

Oh and the food, Fuggetaboutit! The table was covered in crisp Caesar salads made tableside, (even sans anchovy paste if you wish which we loved!) traditional fried zucchini, penne arrabiata, pesto linguine, chicken Parm, chicken Francese, you name it! The wine was even reasonably priced—which of course called for us ordering an extra bottle of champagne! Delish!!

So, if you’re looking for an evening filled with delicious food and fantastic entertainment, look no further. Rossini’s is a one of a kind dining experience that you will never forget! It’s everything you would picture a perfect New York Italian restaurant to be. Our expectations were exceeded beyond our wildest beliefs! Don’t believe us? Check out the wall lined with celeb photos and letters praising the cuisine here! If you live in New York and haven’t been here you’ve never been to an Italian restaurant!
