Emergency Landing Yesterday in NYC’s Hudson River

So my greatest fear was realized yesterday when a pilot had to make an emergency landing yesterday. (As if we hadn’t already been scared enough by terrorists on 24 taking over air traffic control). It seems like a nearly impossible confluence of events–birds taking out the plane’s engine and the pilot landing the plane in a river! Birds interfere with airplanes regularly but rarely to this extent with a commercial aircraft. Jet engines sometimes fail but rarely both at once. Anyway, this pilot deserves a medal!!! He landed the plane safely, with all passengers surviving! Incredible! Nothing in Manhattan damaged (except our faith in flying) and no passengers with any life-threatening injuries. One passenger described the impact as “just a little worse than a rear-end collision.” Just amazing!
While it does put us as at ease a little that this pilot was able to do this, we think we’ll travel within train destinations for a little while.
