This was the best show on TV in ages! Why!????????????

Quick-Recap of AMA’s-Best and Worst and Pics!

Nov 23, 2008 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Celebs

Despite the sarcasm of this post, I found the award show extremely entertaining…

PS I didn’t start watching until mid-show…That being said…

Being a Disney lover I was pumped to watch the Jo-Bros rock out and snag an award for themselves. They’re just so happy and refreshingly light.

Rihanna had some shiteous fashion choices. Her dress was ffffffreakin’ short, flowing and vomitotious. Did I mention that you could almost see her underpants? If you don’t believe me, check out what she wore last year…too bad this year was worse…maybe…hmm you decide. Her hair was definitely worse this year…mohawks are just never okay.

After her jaunt down the red carpet, she performed her new shiteous single, “Rehab” which doesn’t compare to her usual classics like “Umbrella,” “Shutup and Drive,” and “Disturbia.” Costumes were horrific…unless you’re Captain Hook. Nice bedazzled eye patch, Re. Thank you for proving that it doesn’t matter how hot you are–eye patches never work. Her backup singers were wearing glasses that looked like blindfolds–perhaps Captain was going to make them walk the plank. Not a bad idea since they didn’t add to the letdown of a performance.

God bless Jimmy Kimmel and his digs at Kanye West. Someone needs to put that Douche-West in his place. This year he gave his award away after winning an award last year for being the sorest loser and complaining to any media outlet he could find about not winning an award. Well, as long as we’re on the subject of telling people where to put the awards, i’d like to tell him where to put his…

I usually think Beyonce is a Diva-licious nightmare but her performance was pretty entertaining. Too bad she showed us how irrelevant she is to a good performance, chiming in to sing a few lines every now and then. The costume required a Brazilian bikini wax but she pulled it off.

Typical.

The Pussycat Dolls performed some slow single they’ve been trying to shove down our throats (to no avail) and “When I Grow Up.” Now I’m not going to pretend I don’t rock out to this on my ipod but they are so sex on a stick it’s ridiculous. My boyfriend turned around from doing his homework to find me watching this and thought I was watching some sex show. I know you’re the Pussycat Dolls but leave a little to the imagination, ladies.

Steven Tyler and Joe from Aerosmtih must have been high and may I just add that I swear, Steven Tyler looked more like a woman than Annie Lennox who received some big award–not big enough to keep my interest but whatever.

Chris Brown was his usual humble, charming self. I want to wrap him up and give him to everyone for the Holidays. Every single celeb should model their public appearances after his humble, fumbling grace.

I’m not usually a fan of Alicia Keys but her finale performance with Queen Latifah and Kathleen Battle brought the house down! Could Queen Latifah be any cuter? During Battle’s performance she stared into the audience in awe of Battle’s talents dropping her jaw and genuinely enjoying the performance. I wish Queen Latifah was my BFF. The Superwoman performance was Suuuuuuuuper!

Best Comedy Duo Ever- Mark & Amanda on Ugly Betty

Nov 23, 2008 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Uncategorized

Why do I tune in every week to Ugly Betty on ABC? Well I’ll tell you what, it isn’t to watch that repulsive Betty or her annoying father, that’s for sure. The show is propelled into comedic genius because of Mark St. James (Michael Urie) and Amanda Tanen (Becki Newton). Every word these two utter is hilarious! Their lines drip with sarcasm and wit. Their facial expressions alone are enough to keep me watching. They’re not bogged down by good consciences or boring storylines (cue Betty). They come in, say something hilarious and leave. They scheme, they lie they cheat, and they gossip–what’s not to love?

New Cool Store- NYC- Great finds reasonably priced

Nov 23, 2008 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Uncategorized

In God We Trust in the East Village is a refreshingly adorable shop run by a refreshingly, sweet owner who was actually making accessories while my friends and I were shopping. The shop has a rugged charm with tons of adorable pieces that are reasonably priced. I’ve been going through, what my friend calls, my “Blair Waldorf” stage and this place gave me my fix of sweet headbands that I need. Such cool headbands, in fact, that I had to buy 2. At first when we asked how much they were we misunderstood that they were $50. But when we asked again we learned that they were only $15 bucks a piece! These are such darling pieces. I bought one lavender, satin one with a bow and another red, plaid one. Now, you can often find wonderful headbands at Forever 21 but these are handcrafted and well made. Reason enough for any Upper-East sider to brave the commute down to the lower east side any Saturday. And if that’s not reason enough for ya, hit up Clinton Baking Company (which I wasn’t that impressed with) or Sugar Sweet Sunshine which is an adorable bakeshop filled with cupcakes.

The store also carries other wonderful accessories that won’t break the bank…

Barettes, $10.00

Sweet pendants available in other (funnier) phrases such as Bless this Mess, Balls to the Wall, and Really Fuckin Cute, $40.00

Slightly pricier but so precious its hard to resist! $220.00 -- But technically, its 2 necklaces :)

This shop is what shopping on the lower east side should feel like…original designers with at least some reasonably priced items (unlike most stores that charge $395 for a blouse!) Their clothes are slightly pricier and not quite my taste (think Steven Alan) but it’s definitely worth a trip to check it out! Visit http://www.ingodwetrustnyc.com to see for yourself. The owner’s motto is that she wants everyone to be able to afford something–so what do you have to lose?

Subway Fare Increase in Manhattan is NOT FARE!!

Nov 22, 2008 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Uncategorized

So Un-Fare!

If you live in Manhattan you’re pretty much stuck riding this repulsive, rat-ridden, rollercoaster if you don’t want to go broke paying cabbies that take you the long way during rush hour traffic. So what am I complaining about? I did move here fully knowing about the subway and it’s filth? Well, I just don’t understand what the hell the MTA is possibly doing with their money! Do they have a secret drug habit? Gambling? They just announced a 1.2 billion dollar budget gap! How the hell is this possible? Every rider is paying $2 bucks to get on each way they take it (unless unlimited fares). How are they not kicking a profit! Can someone clue me in? They certainly aren’t putting money into their product? I mean the trains are not exactly new? I never see service-people cleaning them? So what the? The MTA has announced plans to hike fares and tolls by 23% in June 2009. That would make one-way tickets $2.50 and Monthly passes now $100! Don’t throw yourselves on the tracks yet, officials hope the Legislature will step in with money but it looks dark ahead. MTA will likely pass proposed cuts leading me to spend my money on my least fave activity, riding the subway. There is hope, they may just end up cutting more trains so they’re just a tad more crowded in the mornings…no biggie right? I usually complain about having too much space during rush hour…

Nothing like the human touch…the MTA will just have to change their tickets and they’ll be set…

Easy way to save money this weekend!

Cheap Free Manicures!

Do your own nails girls! Now I know some of you out there are brillant. You can do it all! Cook, clean, have kids and manage a day job all at the same time. And you’re going to tell me that you can’t manage painting your nails as well as someone else does? This is such an easy thing to cut out of your budget.  With some practice you can easily manage your own polish changes. I’m not advocating you start pedicuring your toenails and dealing with ingrowns (eww!). I’m not even so great at the cutting and filing part. So what I do is get a mani/pedi once a month and then I just do the polish changes. It’s so do-able with the added bonus of exercising your balance by using the hand you don’t write with. It’s like a brain exercise! So go pick up some nail polish at the local drug store.

This season I’ve been all about lighter colors…well more than last season when a day didn’t go by where I didn’t have gothic, black nails! These colors are fantastic.

Some advice though, if you are going to listen to me and attempt to do your nails yourself, OPI brushes which are supposed to be easier to paint with, in my opinion are too big and make it harder. I choose Essie brushes anyday. But OPI usually has a better color selection. Quite a Catch 22…You be the judge!

Black is classic! (Except that our nemesis L.C. on the Hills likes it. Ugh we hate her!)
